Physiotherapy

Location:

Coquitlam, BC

We offer Physiotherapy-Integrated BI or MT sessions as part of the Empowering Steps program. These are based on the same Motor Scale and Development Scale as the regular Empowering Steps BI and MT programs, but with additional input from our physiotherapist. Integrated programs are delivered by Empowering Steps therapy staff, and sessions will incorporate specific physio goals. Monthly check-ins are completed virtually by the physiotherapist, in which she will make updates/changes to the program accordingly. This service is offered 7 days a week. An initial assessment must be completed by the physiotherapist to determine if this service is appropriate for your child.

The physiotherapist also offers 1:1 treatment for childrem with more complex physical impairments. This service is only available on Fridays from 10am to 6pm.

Meet your PT

Courtney De Anna graduated from the University of British Columbia with a Master’s of Physical Therapy (MPT) in 2024. Prior education includes a Diploma in Sport Science and a Bachelor’s of Physical Education and Coaching.

Currently, Courtney works 4 days a week at Surrey Memorial Hospital as a physiotherapist in the Neonatal ICU. In this setting, Courtney is exposed to premature and critically-ill infants. Her role is a combination of assessment, treatment, and supporting tiny babies, and their families, through this challenging time. Education to parents, neurodevelopmental care, and screening for potential complications/abnormalities are all important to ensure each child goes on to live a happy and healthy life!

Prior to beginning the MPT program, Courtney was a therapist on the ESMT team for 3 years. She is very excited to rejoin the team, and to continue helping children and families achieve their goals! Courtney utilizes a play-based approach, that ensures fun and enjoyment are integrated within physiotherapy sessions. Each individual case is approached through a family-centred lens, understanding that every child has different abilities, strengths, and functional goals. Courtney is very passionate about pediatric physiotherapy and brings a purposeful and energetic approach to the team at Empowering Steps.
